Portfolio: Community Development

Managing a successful community requires a steady stream of new and unique content, a critical mass of engaged members, and a coordinated staff to maintain the quality of the community and to drive outreach efforts to attract new audiences.

Community Manager
The Ideahaus Professional Community
Nov. 2012 to Present

The Ideahaus Professional Community is the educational arm of a creative communications agency with studios in Pittsburgh and San Diego. Members can view content for free or register for two different paid membership levels to download tools, premium content, and to talk directly with the Ideahaus Communications Director about challenges they face. As the Community Manager, I designed the editorial calendar and set the marketing schedule which included email marketing, blogger outreach, social media development, and partnerships with small business organizations. I delegated tasks to two employees and tracked their progress.

Editor-in-Chief
Lockflow.com
July 2007 to April 2010

Lockflow.com is a mixed martial arts news and technique site with a well-developed community that receives over 1 million hits a month. As Editor-in-Chief, I produced content like monthly newsletters and weekly podcasts while directing a team of six writers, editing articles for submission. To grow the community, I launched and managed a campaign to increase website traffic using social media, podcasts, and targeted content. Average traffic grew by 15% while I managed a team of six writers.
